
CONTROLLER – Tool Testing Lab
JOB SUMMARY:
The Controller is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the Tool Testing Lab. This position combines strategic financial management with the hands-on oversight of the lab’s daily financial activities, ensuring that financial reporting, compliance, and internal controls are maintained at the highest standards. The Controller will play a key role in shaping the lab’s financial strategy while ensuring adherence to quality standards, including ISO 17025:2017 certification.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
FINANCIAL STRATEGY & LEADERSHIP:
• Develop and execute financial strategies aligned with the lab’s objectives and growth plans.
• Lead the preparation of budgets, financial forecasts, and analysis to support strategic decision-making.
• Monitor and manage cash flow, investments, and financial risks to ensure financial stability.
• Work closely with the Board of Directors and senior management to help define and achieve long-term financial goals for the lab.
FINANCIAL REPORTING & COMPLIANCE:
• Manage the preparation and presentation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
• Ensure compliance with accounting regulations, tax laws, and ISO 17025:2017 standards.
• Oversee the development and maintenance of internal financial controls to ensure accuracy and transparency.
• Coordinate and manage external audits, financial filings, and regulatory reporting to maintain compliance.
TEAM LEADERSHIP & DEVELOPMENT:
• Supervise and mentor the finance team, promoting a collaborative and results-driven environment.
• Develop and implement financial processes and systems to improve efficiency and operational effectiveness.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align financial operations with the lab’s broader business objectives.
CASH FLOW & RISK MANAGEMENT:
• Oversee cash flow management, including budgeting for capital expenditures, procurement, and investment strategies.
• Identify potential financial risks and develop strategies to mitigate them.
• Maintain relationships with financial stakeholders such as banks, vendors, and investors, ensuring optimal funding strategies.
INTERNAL CONTROLS & OPERATIONAL EXCELLENCE:
• Design and implement strong internal controls to safeguard the lab’s financial resources and assets.
• Ensure compliance with industry regulations and internal financial policies.
• Regularly review and enhance financial systems to ensure that they support the lab’s operational goals and maintain reporting accuracy.
WORK CONDITIONS:
• Full-time, office-based position.
• Standard business hours (Monday through Friday), with flexibility during peak financial periods.
• Occasional travel for meetings, conferences, and external audits.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. A Master’s degree or MBA in Finance or Accounting is preferred.
CERTIFICATIONS:
• CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or CMA (Certified Management Accountant) required.
• Additional certifications in financial analysis, risk management, or auditing are a plus.
EXPERIENCE:
• At least 7 years of experience in accounting or financial management, including a minimum of 3 years in a senior leadership or managerial role (e.g., Controller, Finance Director).
• Experience in managing financial operations in a technical or laboratory environment is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of Sage50 and financial standards for laboratory settings.
• Proven experience with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management in a laboratory or industrial environment.
SKILLS:
• Strong leadership skills with a proven ability to manage and mentor finance teams.
• Expertise in financial reporting, general ledger management, and internal controls.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to implement effective financial solutions.
• Proficiency with financial software systems (e.g., ERP systems, Sage50) and Microsoft Excel (Advanced).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of collaborating with management and external stakeholders.
